The International Society for Media, Religion, and Culture is an academic space for scholars from a range of disciplinary perspectives interested in how media and religion intersect with different cultures and contexts. Members come from academic institutions around the world and disciplines such as media studies, journalism, religious studies, anthropology, and sociology of religion, as well as history, literature, and public policy. Since its first meeting in 1996, the conference has become the leading international gathering for the discussion of research in religion, media, and culture. What happened to the Planned ISMRC 2021 Conference?
The planned onsite and hybrid ISMRC conference had to be canceled due to the continued impact of the Covid-19 global pandemic on international travel and health & safety concerns. This symposium replaces the original ISMRC 2021 conference, previously scheduled for August 3-6, 2021 in Sigtuna Sweden.
We look forward to returning to a full conference format in 2023 when the next ISMRC Conference will take place in Bochum, Germany in conjunction with the Center for Religious Studies at Ruhr University-Bochum. In the meantime, the ISMRC board will be working with regional groups to encourage the planning of ISMRC-related events in 2021 & 2022.
